BIOGRAPHICAL Summary of Work

von is a second-generation architect and the founder, President/CEO of The
MXD Collaborative, Inc (www.mxd-manis.com). von formed MXD as an
independent consulting firm in 1992 in order to bring some of the best and
creative minds together to help improve urban environments as a collaborative
effort.

Since 1995 he has made MXD one of a few urban design firms that specializes
in urban safety. He has overseen the completion of a number of crime
prevention through environmental design (CPTED) projects in multiple
jurisdictions in metro Atlanta. von is certified by the National Council of
Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) and as a result holds licenses to
practice architecture in Illinois, Florida, and Georgia.

Nkosi’s experience in and knowledge of urban design, CPTED, architecture,
multimedia and academic research has helped move smart growth strategies
forward in the metro Atlanta region. Some projects have included
implementation planning for the MLK Jr. Historic District for the Historic District
Development Corporation (HDDC) and assisting ANDP, the former Corporation
for Olympic Development of Atlanta (CODA) and the City of Atlanta’s
Department of Housing to identify the gaps in neighborhood development
projects prior to the 1996 Olympic Games.

Between November 1998 and February 2007 von directed the Atlanta
Neighborhood Development Partnership, Inc. (ANDP)’s Mixed Income
Communities Initiative (MICI), a holistic program designed to increase the
number of viable mixed income housing developments in the 10-county metro
Atlanta region.

Nkosi managed the creation of the 2004 released report called “Making the
Case (MTC) for Mixed Income and Mixed Use Communities: An Executive
Summary” report. With Ford Foundation-lead funding, this effort was carried out
in partnership with the Atlanta Regional Commission, PolicyLink in Oakland,
CA, the Center for Neighborhood Technology in Chicago, Greater Atlanta Home
Builders Association, the Urban Land institute’s Atlanta Office and others. The
Executive Summary and CD of the MTC report are available on ANDP’s web
site at www.andpi.org/mici. In March of 2005 the MTC document became the #1
result of millions on the Google search engine for “mixed income communities”.
It is being updated and will be released in Summer 2007.

As a result of his more than 15 years of experience, von is a respected and
popular lecturer on topics of CPTED, Urban design and Housing. Nkosi serves
on the board of SouthFace Energy Institute since January 2006, the Community
Design Center of Atlanta since May 2006 and the YMCA Villages at Carver
(Hope VI site) as of January 2007

In 1986, he received his first professional degree in architecture (B.Arch) from
Hampton University in Virginia. In 1992, he completed his second professional
degree a master’s in architecture (M.Arch) at the world-renowned Illinois
Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago where he received two Illinois Society of
Architects design competition awards and was the recipient of the AIA Henry
Adams Award and the AIA Medal for Excellence in the Study of Architecture. He
graduated from IIT with a 4.0. He has also completed coursework for a Ph.D. in
Architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology and his ABD. His current
dissertation focus is in the area of Leadership and the Implementation of
Affordable Housing.

In Late February 2007 von began serving as Senior Advisor for Equitable
Development for the City of New Orleans

Spending his formative years in New York City, von has resided in Atlanta since
1979.
