On
Safety...
In formulating strategies with our clients to improve their
communities, a lack
of feeling safe on the street is a reoccurring problem statement.
One of the
major impediments to successful neighborhood development has been
crime
or the perception of crime. For this reason since 1995 MXD has
provided urban
safety analysis and crime prevention through environmental design
(CPTED)
as part of our comprehensive services.
Lending institutions have used issues such as crime as a factor in
divestment in
certain neighborhoods. Developers have also cited crime or the
perception of
crime as a reason for not developing in certain communities.
It has been the goal of MXD to help reduce the perception and the
opportunity for
crime by alteration of the physical environment. All of our
programming and design
services incorporate CPTED strategies. Our commitment to the
successful
implementation of neighborhood revitalization projects has prompted
us make
CPTED a proactive process in our work.
MXD and one of its clients, METRO ATLANTA PROJECT PACT, has also
developed a
multimedia presentation of crime prevention through environmental
design on CD ROM.
The CD and its companion brochure provide a comprehensive
introduction to the strategies,
steps and benefits to incorporating CPTED into an overall planning
and design strategy.
This multimedia CPTED presentation is currently available to the
general public via
MXD+MANIS or METRO ATLANTA PROJECT PACT.
