MXD was commissioned by the National Trust for Historic
Preservation to design in-fill housing in the Historic South
Albany Area.
The houses designed were to serve as prototypes for in-fill
housing on vacant lots and housing damaged by the floods
of 1994.
Our task was to design affordable prototype single family
house designs varying in size and bedroom types. Our
design services included landscape architectural design
and cost estimates with alternates to give our Client
and future residents a range of prices.
We provided housing designs ranging in size from
a 2 bedroom 964 square feet "shot-gun" style house
to a 3 bedroom 1,192 square feet home. Our goal
was to have the construction cost range between
$45 and $55 dollars per square foot.

Taking into consideration total development cost,
the sale of these homes were estimated to range in
price from $60,000 to $90,000. We also provided
the National Trust with an assessment of the existing
neighborhood conditions.
